Tom Thacker and Hampshire support for Parish Lengthsman Scheme

I was delighted that the Executive Member for Environment and Transport gave approval for the continuation of the Parish Lengthsman Scheme for the 2017-2018 financial year, with Highway funding for the participating parish and town Councils maintained at 2016/17 funding levels.

I am an avid supporter of the Parish Lengthsman Scheme and was instrumental in setting up the North West Hampshire cluster, which comprises the parishes of St Mary Bourne, East Woodhay, Burghclere, Ecchinswell, Sydmonton & Bishops Green, Whitchurch, Longparish, Ashmansworth, Newtown, Hurstbourne Priors and Highclere.

Each parish receives £1,000 per year, (effectively six days work), to spend on roadside work. The important feature of the scheme is that, within certain criteria, each Parish can prioritise and decide on what work the money is spent.

More about Tom Thacker

It’s been a great honour to serve the residents of Whitchurch & Clere Division for the past 8 years. Boundary changes at this election see Kingsclere residents join this division and it is now called Whitchurch and The Cleres. I recently moved back to St Mary Bourne, to where over the past 40 years I've always had a close association and commitment. During the last four years I've supported many local community projects, including the following: 1. An outside play area for Whitchurch Rising Fives; 2. A reading area for St Thomas’s CE Infant School in Woolton Hill; 3. Outside Learning at Whitchurch Primary School; 4. Notice boards for Hurstbourne Priors and Newtown; 5. Ground maintenance at the Westridge Trust, Highclere.
